Autocross
Michelin Autocross –Wednesday and Thursday, July 12 and 13
The Autocross will be held on the south parking lot at nearby Northern Quest Resort and Casino, 9 miles from downtown Spokane with a 14-minute travel time to the site. Once again, the event is scheduled for two days, giving plenty of time for all who want to participate.
After two years on runways, we have a 700’ x 370’ rectangle on which to lay out the autocross course. The surface is newer asphalt with some smooth undulations, but we will be the first to autocross on the site, so the grip level is uncertain. To ensure a fun time for the many less experienced entrants that attend Parade, the course will be easy to follow and emphasize flow. Watch the Parade web site for comments on the course and site conditions after the course layout and safety test in early April.
Set aside 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 10 for the Autocross Chalk Talk. There will be analysis and video of the course and a chance to learn tips and techniques. Especially important for less experienced participants, don’t forget the opportunity to walk and study the course on Tuesday, July 11, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. with an instructor-led walk beginning at 4:00 p.m. The course is also open on Wednesday, July 12, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and after runs are completed for the day (about 3:00 p.m.), and Thursday, July 13, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
All Porsches entered in the autocross must pass Parade Safety Inspection. Check the Parade schedule for time and place.
Registered Junior Participation Program (JPP) members and College Age Family Program (CAFP) members with a valid driver’s license may participate in the autocross in the same Porsche and same class as their parent(s).
The run schedule for the autocross will be all Showroom Stock cars (S01 through S13, SV1 & SV2) running on Wednesday, July 12, with Production category (P01 through P17), along with all Improved and Modified classes, running on Thursday, July 13.
Updated 3/25/17: Note these changes: S13, SV1 & SV2 and P17
Study the PCRs (2017 Parade Competition Rules) to determine the proper autocross class to enter. There are separate classes for men and for women, so be careful to choose appropriately. Note that S and P classes now have a minimum tread wear rating of 180. Contact the Parade Autocross Chair (autox@pca.org) if you have questions, but remember that it is your responsibility to correctly classify your Porsche for the autocross.
